Quentin Tarantino Rides Again With "The Hateful Eight"

Quentin Tarantino was at Comic-Con this past weekend promoting his "Django Unchained/Zorro" crossover comic on the Dynamite Comic’s panel. Eventually, a Q&A session brought up questions regarding the status of his upcoming western, The Hateful Eight...

Tarantino was more interested in discussing comics, but he did quietly confirm that yes, The Hateful Eight will be his next directorial effort. Shortly after, the poster above made its way online, promising a 2015 "Special Roadshow Engagement".

Well, that escalated quickly. It was just late last year Tarantino bitterly announced he was shelving the project after an early draft of the script leaked online. Then he went, "Aw fuck it, I'm gonna make it anyway". Early this spring, there was a live reading of the early draft including Tarantino and a cast full of bad-asses in tow: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Amber Tamblyn, Walton Goggins, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, James Parks, Denis Menochet, Dana Gourrier, Zoe Bell and James Remar -- SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

Kurt Russell, who will play bounty hunter John Ruth in the feature, also stated in an early July interview that cameras would probably start rolling early next year.

First off, wow. Filmed at the beginning of the year and then showing in theaters at the end of the year? I guess I forgot movies can be made that quickly when you don't have to tack on another year or so for a metric ton of comic booky digital effects shots.

Django was terrific, but it did have some pacing issues. I'm all for another good old-fashioned western. It's been too long. And it's certainly been too long since we've seen Kurt Russell kicking ass and taking names.

Seriously, I'm going to go home and watch Tombstone now for the 20th time.
