Star Trek/Apes, Escape From New York & More Coming From IDW & BOOM!

Just when you thought Comic-Con was hopelessly overrun with film and television advertising... well ok, it kinda is, but run with me here... IDW Publishing and BOOM! Studios have announced a ton of awesome new comics headed our way soon!

Take your hands off me, you filthy red shirt!

First up, IDW and BOOM! collaborate for a special Star Trek/Planet of the Apes crossover event: The Primate Directive! The announcement from IDW came along with the following quote:

"Have you ever wondered what it would be like to 'mind-meld' with a sentient ape? Or wanted to see a Klingon on horseback, brandishing a rifle?"

NO! BUT I DO NOW! According to the comic publisher, the series will have the original Enterprise crew paired up with Taylor, Nova and the cast from the original Planet of the Apes film. ...Is it too much to ask for a Simpsons crossover as well? I'm hearing Troy McClure in my head as we speak!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Ghostbusters

My inner five-year-old is LOSING IT right now! In time for both of their 30th anniversaries, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Ghostbusters will pair up for a four-issue crossover. Per IDW, Tom Waltz and Erik Burnham, both veterans with the properties, will co-write and Dan Schoening will handle the art. Issue #1 hits the stands this October.

Orphan Black

I really need to start watching this show. Any time I hear anything about it, people are telling me how awesome it is. The comic series is set to begin right as Season 3 airs in early 2015. Creative team to be announced soon!

Edward Scissorhands

A five-issue series starting in October! The story takes place two decades after the events of the film, when Edward "wakes up a creature left buried" in the same castle he has been exiled in all this time.

Garbage Pail Kids

What the... I can't even... LOL. Look for their 30th anniversary and triumphant return in 2015!

Galaxy Quest

YES! Galaxy Quest is always a good thing! The official release states the "all-new Galaxy Quest series [will be] set after the film. Written by Erik Burnham, with art by Nacho Arranz the new series will be available in early 2015!"

By Grabthar's Hammer, I will buy you!

Escape From New York

Oh, hell yeah... Not to be outdone by IDW, BOOM! Studios have been killing it with their current Big Trouble In Little China comic. Oh, did you not know about that? I highly suggest you go get it now! And while you're at it, feel free to geek-squee with delight over the news that BOOM! has also announced more Kurt Russell bad-assery with Escape From New York! Like Big Trouble, Escape will continue the story immediately after the movie's final scene, as Snake sets out to see what the rest of 1980's dystopian America looks like. Can't wait!
